Camera "Traps"

Marcella Kelly
uses strategically placed, infrared, motion-sensitive cameras for studying jaguar populations in Las Cuevas.
“It’s very difficult to sight jaguars in the wild. When you put these cameras out, you can start collecting a catalog of photographs of each individual over time. I don’t remember how camera trapping came up, but it was like a little light bulb went off immediately: The trap is the camera frame—the capture in this case is a photograph. You’ve captured the animal by photographing it.”—Marcella Kelly, Biologist
