                 We'll
find out what's so special about putting a telescope
above the atmosphere, by making a live visit to Flight
Operations and talking with scientists who have nurtured
                            Hubble from the beginning.

                Dr.
                      Steven Beckwith

              We'll
talk with Dr. Steven Beckwith who is is Director of Space
Telescope Science Institute and a Professor of Physics and
Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University. He is interested
in how planets are made around young stars and how galaxies
were assembled in the early universe from the residue of
the Big Bang. Since coming to Baltimore, he has become an
avid "Hubble hugger," at the Institute that made Hubble
a household name. Dr. Beckwith has degrees in both engineering
and physics and spent much of his early career building
instruments for large telescopes. Since he isn't checked
out to work on Hubble's delicate instruments, he contents
himself by keeping his aging car roadworthy.
